Fulfilled

"We traveled from Galilee to Nazareth. We got off the bus and were led through streets narrower, and just as winding as the Arab quarter to the Old City. We arrived at the original synagogue of Nazareth. This was probably Jesus' church as a child. This stone room had the original pavement where He stood to speak. He stood right there and spoke! James read from the Luke 4:16.Where Jesus started his ministry and read from the book of Isaiah.

“ The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”

20 Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21 And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”

The people of the synagogue were outraged by His claim to be the one God had chosen to be the Messiah. They decided this blasphemer needed to be punished.
They moved to kill Him. Jesus, knowing He had been rejected by His own community stood and passed right through them.

Pastor stood and shared that just as Jesus was rejected we too find ourselves rejected over and over again. We must shake it off and just pass through them walking out the door. He challenged us to walk through that door today, leaving our rejection behind. It was an amazing scene and realization."

Walk through that door today!

(Another beautiful moment from November, 2008.)

  1. The old city has to be one of my favorite places. The people are awesome and just to walk some of the streets where Jesus walked is more than words can describe. I am with you in spirit.
